Nye led the group of three, still mulling over if they should try to avoid the Greco pack or not. Bayla had stopped her chattering in favor of focusing on moving with three legs. At least they could no longer see the giant bird and Nye felt safer with every step he put between them and the human village. He had no idea how long it would take for the humans to start spreading again, and he had no intention of sticking around if the humans were going to start grabbing wolves again.
"Okay, why is it so silent?" Bayla demanded, bringing Nye to a chuckle but when he turned to give a smart reply about the silence and her talking when he realized she was right. He had been so lost in thought he hadn't even realized that aside from the wind and the sound of their feet there was no sound. No animals, no insects.
"Guess everything else is asleep..."
"But how far does it go? Did the entire world fall asleep or just a limited area?" Bayla continued to ask although Nye had no way of knowing. She looked at Shanook, as if he might have the answer.

Shanook glanced sideways at Bayla and gave an awkward shrug in response to her question.
"You know more than me, miss," he said, and continued walking.
"If the animals are sleeping, surely we can find them in their dens or nests, or even in the open in some places..." he trailed off, looking around. A quick search revealed a rabbit warren, but with how deep those went he doubted it was worth it to dig it up.
"Maybe we might find some animals closer to water?" Shanook turned to keep walking.

"Do we really want to stop, though?" Nye asked, noticing Bayla was busy grinning a goofy smile.
"I know things," she declared proudly, making Nye chuckle.
"Like what?" he asked.
"Things."
"Finding water would be a good idea, Shanook. I'm tired of having cobwebs on my fur," Nye agreed, looking at Shanook and trying to suppress his smile at Bayla's shenanigans. "We just need to follow the sound of the waterfall and hopefully we'll find something else awake." Ideally something that wasn't also hostile. Nye adjusted course, letting his ears guide him. It did not take long to find the river and the waterfall that fed it, cascading down the slope in tiers.

He looked sideways at Bayla with her goofy grin - it was like she had received some huge compliment, it was cute how happy she was. He followed Nye's cue to the waterfall, and as soon as it was in sight he breathed a sigh of relief. Water was definitely in high demand right now.
He stepped on something that shrieked under him, and he jumped back to find a rabbit fleeing from his paws.
"So that's a definite yes to everything sleeping," he said. "At least it makes hunting easier."
He dropped the satchels to stop at the waterfall and step under it, letting the pressure from the water clean his coat. It wouldn't help his leg or tail at all, but at least he had most of the supplies needed now to address those.
"So Nye, any thoughts on how you want to handle Greco?"

Bayla plopped down by the water, having enough sense to keep her injured back leg out of the water but letting her front paws go for a little dip. Nye followed Shanook's lead and got into the water, dipping his entire body under and letting the current clean the dust and cobwebs off for him. He emerged and shook, not responding to Shanook's question until he had gotten back onto the grassy slope by the water and rolled. Cobwebs and dust made one very itchy apparently.
"We don't know how long it will be until the humans are back out moving around, and we don't know if the Greco pack is awake or asleep, or if our friends are awake for that matter. I think the quickest path, straight through, might be worth the risk. If we need to fight so be it," he glanced at Bayla, blowing bubbles in the water with her nose, "I don't think we'd be able to outrun them at this point."
"It's just their alpha that we need to worry about, unless he gets his entire pack on us," Bayla added, listening to the conversation after all.

Shanook nodded in response to Nye's reasoning, stepping out from under the falls back onto dry land and shaking his coat out.
He walked over to the satchels, tying the straps together and slinging them over his back like a saddle bag.
"The sooner we get through Greco lands, the less chance we have of getting caught," he said. "Once you two are ready, we'll head out again."
